Hey Neighbors - just a friendly remind to be sure and get your water requirements and a little extra if possible. With the summer heat we need to be extremely good about drinking plenty of water and avoid dehydration.

Symptoms of dehydration include dizziness, dry mouth and faintness.

Drink up!!

Cheers!

And don't be surprised if the scale goes up! I know that I'm drinking more and am retaining it. Part of that is due to the surgery recovery, but I always retain water when it's this hot out.

I drank my water double time this last week. When you are on the go and in the heat it is very important.

Been getting the water in, sometimes so hot I gulp it down, and then pray for a burp or something, forgot to sip sip sip. Can't wait till I can actually gulp down a drink again. When will it happen?

Yes, with all this heat we must remember to get in our liquids!

Great Job Galelynn & Meliss - especially in your hot dry climates. Very important to get lots of water.

As for guzzle & gulp. I'm almost 7 years post-op and cannot do either. It's the nature of the pouch. It's only been this summer that I've been able to drink ice water, that's how hot it is here. (When it's not hot the ice water drops my body temperature too much).

Buffy, you get used to not gulping/guzzling. And when you forget the little pouch will remind you that slow steady sipping wins the race! OUCH!

I can't gulp and have had some trouble getting the fluids in this weekend. I usually get almost a gallon a day, but not this weekend. When I did get most of it in, didn't feel quite so tired. :cool-smiley-026:

I can take in about half a glass at one slurp most of the time. There are times when I do this and I feel tightness, so I just listen to my pouch and wait before I take the next drink. Sometimes, I'll hold a mouthful of water just because I can feel that it isn't going to go down easy. Isn't it amazing how we know our bodies so much better now that we've gone through this experience?

Yeah Kim---we each have little quirks that we've learned through the sheer course of time.

Buffy--once you have your surgery you will do the same---isn't it nice to know you are so far ahead of the game than others...

It is definately important when it is this hot to remember to take in your fluids. It might also be a good idea to take in some kind of electrolyte supplement as with the heat and the sweat your body is depleeting those also.

I know that this past weekend with 100 degree+ weather it was hard on the rides getting enough of both.

Buffy thais the best sign that you are getting enough liquids.

This happens to me all the time. I hate it when I'm holding water and read a funny post that makes me spew spit-water forth all over my equipment! :D

Wow - is THIS ever important! I can totally attest to the fact that I did NOT follow all of my instructions and drink like I was supposed to. By the end of the first year, I had passed 32 (yes, thirty two!) kidney stones, and then the following month I had emergency kidney surgery on my left kidney. My excuse was that I could "never get it down, it hurt to drink, bla bla bla), but after all the crud I had to go through, trust me, I found a way! LOL....

Now, these days, I drink constantly - I always have something with me, regardless. I also do take Urocit-K tablets (prescription) 3-times a day to help prevent the formation of future kidney stones....

Oh, and by the way, my Kidney Stones were PROTEIN stones, not calcium deposits! (I forgot the clinical name for this, but the doctor explained it to me)...

So, DRINK DRINK DRINK until you DROWN! LOL.....

I don't ever seem to get my water in for a day. I will get up to 5-6 maybe 7 cups a day. It is so uncomfortable to drink. My pouch does the squeezes and sometimes I even have to throw-up. Today has not been a good day. I have been nauseated most of the day. I am out of town and forgot to take my Reglan along with me. Dinner was a disaster. Anyway, I continue to sip, sip, sip.

Just do the best that you can and get in as much fluid as you can. I know what happens when I miss my Reglan and boy do I sympathize with you! love0028.gif

With my surgical wound still being there, I find it hard to tell which is bothering me, my pouch or the wound. I try to drink as much water as I can, but my dietician wants me to ingest 80g protein/day to help heal the wound and has suggested skim milk with extra skim milk powder in it.

I'm having quite a time balancing everything out...

I think that many of us have decided that as new as you are out, it is impossible to get that much protein in that fast. Maybe if you had some of those protein drinks that Michael uses, to get both the fluid in as well as the protein in, that might help. Don't let yourself get dehydrated, that would be bad. Kaye will probably be able to offer more advice here, as well as Kim. love0028.gif

Stu...many become lactose intolerant after WLS. I'd hate for you to compound your pain with added belly gas from the milk. You might try a lactose free milk instead. Personally, I drank Isopure bottled protein beverage (sort of tasted and looked like KoolAid) and Atkin's Ready to Drink in a can. These count as fluids! The Isopure had about 40g of protein per bottle and I would just sip on it all day. What else do you have to do, right? The Atkin's RTD was chocolaty and creamy...yum! You do need that protein in order to heal. I'm even making an effort as I recover from my plastic surgery, adding about an extra 20g per day. Do what you can and know that this will be a gazillion times better next month!
