My 5-day Commitment

My surgery was done 25 years ago. For the most part I have been able to use my surgical procedure as a very useful tool. But I have definitely veered off track! For the past two and a half years my focus has been set on getting past a nicotine addiction. I am grateful to say that my quit is successfully over and I am now ready to tackle the chunk of weight gained during my quit.
This week I am committing myself to stay in close contact by using this thread throughout the next crucial five days. I believe if I keep accountable it will certainly bring me successfully through to the end of the 5DPT. I welcome your support and look forward getting to know you.

My husband is also following his own food plan. This will make it so easy because I am able to prepare his entire day of eating at one time and put it into the fridge. When he gets hungry, he pulls out his next meal. When he is done, he cleans it up himself. So my being in the kitchen happens only in the morning, occuring when I am less likely to get off track. I know I can do this!
So far I have had no problem of staying focused!

Stardust - Welcome to LivingAfterWLS and the Neighborhood! Great to have you here! We have other old timers, or as we call you WLS sages' "Veterans" and I would love to hear about your procedure, your early post-op education and your 25-years of living with this wonderful, crazy, frustrating and fascinating tool.
Best of success to you this week. Sounds like your plan is in place and you are a person of action. I will be watching this thread closely to learn from you and cheer you along.
Best wishes!
Kaye

This is my first time posting.....so hello to everyone.
I am a 4 year post op. I reached goal, but have put back on about 25 pounds. (not very happy about that)
I started the 5 dpt today. I made the sausage pumpkin soup and have the bean and barley simmering in the kitchen.
This is the first time I've made either of these soups.
I just finished my 1st cup of the sausage pumpkin. There were so many saying how good it was I had to try it.
Yes, it is very, very good. But, my question is how is that a "liquid" diet for day one and two with all that sausage in there. No, complaints though, it is delish and really hit the spot after only having shakes the first part of the day.
I have to go back to work tomorrow for my day 2. Not sure how easy day two will be while I'm at work?
Good luck to all of us starting the 5 day today.
Oh....by the way, is there anyway to change our id's on this site? I meant to type in a different one and then can't figure out how to change it.
Thanks,
March04

Tomorrow I will take time to post a bit about my post-op education (LOL!!!), my surgical procedure, and the 25-years of living with this wonderful and fascinating tool. I have been on the computer most of this day, which means nothing else has gotten done around here! And I am set to teach a Bible Study this evening at 7:00. So I will be back after it's over.
This has been a great day working my way through Day-1 of the pouch test! I have met a bunch of wonderful people in here and cannot even begin to express how grateful I am to have found this site. For the first time in 25 years, I have finally found a place where I actually fit in and am able to be a total part of.

since my surgery March 29th 2004. This 5dpt is the answer to anyone
that has gained any of their weight back. It gets you back on track and
allows your pouch do what it was designed to do. I have lost a total of
22lbs of the 34lbs. I need to lose. I am so glad I found this web site and
the answer to my weight gain. Thank you for the discovery of the 5dpt without
this we would all be on our way back to our old self and bad health.

The best part of the program is being able to come HERE and check in for support. Honest to heaven, we need that support!

And lil' Miss Songbird! LOL!!! A cleansing! Is that what you call it! I call it rackin' up a bunch of added steps on my pedometer trottin' back and forth from this room to the privy. But cleansing sounds very fresh, like I got purified today! You made me smile with a giggle over that! But I might be missing something, I'm not quite sure!
I think it is great that others began their 5DPT today as well. I am glad to see that there is a group of us doing this together. Please feel free to come back tomorrow as we go through Day-2!
Your encouraging words evelynb, thank you! It is so good to know that we are doing something very worthwhile. I believe it will definitely be my kick-start to get going in the right direction again!
It's been a fun day! It's been a successful day! Day-1 is now over! G'night!

Stay strong, stay focused and stay close to a potty!
You've got that right!! I was up several times in the night going to the bathroom!
Day 1 was not so bad and I even started thinking that maybe I don't need to do this, but decided that I really want to keep in control of my eating and this is a great way to retrain myself. I was sooooo good after surgery and I am a classic overachiever and can tackle just about anything, but food just kicks me in the butt. Plus it's like everything that could go wrong went wrong yesterday and it sent me into a funk. But...the good news is...I didn't turn to food.
So day 2 is here. I haven't eaten anything yet and am probably behind for the day, but I'll catch up. I got 50g of protein yesterday and I hope that is enough. I was quite satisfied on the protein shakes.
Please keep me in your thoughts today. I don't normally suffer from mood swings but since surgery, I occasionally just kind of bottom out and that is how I'm feeling. My dr says its the release of estrogen from our fat cells that can cause the depression. I feel really good physically, just kind of feeling out of whack hormonally. Hope that makes sense to somebody.

Yesterday went great! I ended up having five protein shakes, a cup of broth, and a bowl of jell-o. Oh yes, and as previously mentioned in one of my other posts, lots of WATER! Dropped a couple of pounds off the scale this morning. And regardless what those first dropped pounds are called . . . (w-a-t-e-r) . . . I call them GONE! Those pounds are going to be added into the end total, so why not count them in with pride!
Several of us began the 5DPT together yesterday. We will go through this week together as a team! For today:
~ ~ ~ Keep Your Focus ~ ~ ~
This is only one day and you can do ANYTHING you set your mind to do for one single day!
Thank you to ALL those who are seasoned members in the neighborhood that are coming in here to encourage us this week. It is so appreciated. Please, keep coming back! We need you!
